A garden wedding...

When we were planning what type of wedding we wanted, the thing that seemed the most important in the end was a wedding outdoors. A couple places in the area were available for garden wedding parties, but when we went to visit Wellers' Weddings in Saline, MI, we knew we had found the right spot (Directions below).

Previously a Henry Ford property (a former grist mill for processing soybeans for automobile plastics and paint), Wellers' has two garden areas for wedding ceremonies, plus accompanying banquet hall accomodations. The larger one has a courtyard and utilizes "the Carriage House" for its receptions, and this is the one we chose.

We visited in May this past spring to get a feel for how it would look for our wedding, and it was gorgeous. Slightly cool, no humidity, and the sun felt great. Everything was green, the last remnants of the crabapple blossoms were on the trees, and it gave us much hope for May, 2003! See the full photo shoot here.

Directions (Map Below)

From the hotels (1) near State St. and I-94: Take S. State St. south. It will turn into S. State Rd. after passing the Ann Arbor Municipal Airport. Turn right onto W. Michigan Ave (US-12). In Saline, less than a half-mile after passing Ann Arbor St., Wellers' Weddings will be on your left as the road begins to rise.

From the downtown Ann Arbor area (2): Take Main St. south. It turns into Ann Arbor-Saline Rd after Scio Church Rd. There is a stop sign where it merges with Wagner Rd., and later it turns into N. Ann Arbor St. as it heads into Saline. Turn right onto W. Michigan Ave. After less than half a mile, Wellers' Weddings will be on your left as the road begins to rise.

Wellers' is most easily recognized by a large red building just off of Michigan Ave. You'll want to turn just before this building, driving down the narrow driveway to the left of the red building. On your left will be a white building, the Carriage House, where our reception will take place. Parking can be found past these buildings, and the ceremony grounds can be easily reached via the parking area.

(For a visual reference, look at above photo, which is facing north. Red is the building on Michigan Ave, and white is the Carriage House. The entrance would be to the right of the red building in this photo, you'd drive facing left between the two buildings, and parking would be to the left behind the trees. Hope that isn't confusing. It should be pretty straightforward once you find Wellers'.)
