From the Sushi Chef Dream Team Portrait Studio

A few favorites images from the Sushi Chef Dream Team benefit event portrait studio. I’m so proud that we helped to raise over $85,000 for Japan relief in the wake of the recent earthquakes and tsunami.

Photos courtesy of Cynthia LaRowe

Some grateful thanks go to Brian Chu and Cynthia LaRowe, our other photographers that evening. Brian took the lead on shooting some great event photos and Cynthia shot these portraits at our studio (and is allowing me to publish them here). All of us conceptualized the studio setup with the projected images of Japan onto a translucent backdrop, and for the most part, it worked out pretty well!

But trying to get four or more grumbling sushi chefs to stand close to one another is like herding cats. So even more thanks go to our chefs: Shiro Kashiba of Shiro’s Sushi Restaurant, Taichi Kitamura of Sushi Kappo Tamura, Hiro Kirita and Shawn Dempsey of Chiso, Ryuichi Nakano of Kisaku, Hideaki Taneda of I Love Sushi at Lake Union, Billy Beach of Japonessa, and Yoshiaki Nishizawa of Shun.

For filling in for the chefs when times got slow, more thanks go to our beautiful Japanese Community Queens of 2010: Kisara Nishimoto, Rachel Fujimoto and Alicia Watanabe.

Also thank you Jeff for the pre-event setup help. Much appreciated!

Springtime Sakura – Cherry Blossoms

You know it’s early spring in Seattle when the cherry blossoms are in bloom at the Quad. Folks come out in droves to view and photograph the historic Yoshino Cherry trees. Often still too chilly in the Pacific Northwest for traditional hanami picnicking, you don’t need a party to enjoy the blossoms. Just get to them before the ethereal petals float away for another year.

Time for Tea and Picnic Portraits

Springtime is here! Who wants to do some picnic portraits? Be inspired by these images of Aja and Hallie and their mommies! You supply the dresses and white gloves, I’ll provide the teacups (and perhaps some cupcakes).
